Cuvée Bélénos 2015, AOC Ventoux

A special cuvée we only make in selected years when the vintage justifies it. 

The 2015 vintage was exceptional in both its very low volume and very high quality. The high quality resulted from the unusual conditions during the growing season - we had lost the majority of our Grenache and some other varieties of grapes by mid June. The remainder of the grape harvest grew healthily, but with unusually small and concentrated berries of exceptional flavour. As the production of Grenache was more reduced than other varieties, the blend of our wines also had to change and the 2015 Bélénos has a much higher weighting of Syrah.

It was fermented in stainless steel and about 65% was aged in large new barrels of French oak for 24 months plus a further six months in a neutral breathable tank.  We expect this wine to develop into something magical over the next few years, but we are already very excited by it.

Tasting notes

Spiced ripe cassis with hints of wild moorland and warm saddle leather, which leads to a mixture of ripe dark forest fruit with hints of opulent spiced tones. The finish is long and enchanting.
